THE NEW MASS TRANSLATION THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

There are only a few changes to the English texts we use for the Liturgy of the Word. The first two readings will be introduced in the same way. However the Acclamation which the reader (lector) makes at the end of the first reading will be “the word of the Lord” our response remains the same “Thanks be to God”

After the Creed, the liturgy of the word concludes with the Prayer of the Faithful. The petitions are supposed to cover four considerations; The needs of the Church; public authorities and the salutation of the whole world; those burdened by any kind of difficulty and the local community. You should not experience any difference in these prayers. They will continue to vary from week to week, but in the same way as they have done in the past.

On the whole, in the midst of the changes in translation, the Liturgy of the Word will remain fairly constant.

As some of the words of Mass change around you, the Word Of God will remain stable.

Next week sees the first of the four annual retiring collections taken up for Parishes in Need.

Many smaller parishes now rely on this lifeline with crippling bills for fuel, water and insurance charges and the 11% reduction in the returns made to Parishes with the changes to Gift Aid taxation refunds by recent legislation. Smaller parishes depend on what they receive from these Archdiocesan collections to pay them.

Can you help? The SVDP flag day is being held on Saturday 20th August 2011, collectors are required. If you feel you can spare time to help please contact Joe McGuire, Society President on 0141 576 8990.
